Double album review by John Clare

John Clare has written an in depth review our trio’s new album, To Sail, To Sing, and our 2010 release, Springs, for all the Winters together for AustralianJazz.net. He examines our releases in the context of jazz history more broadly, suggesting that now “we are at a point where jazz can incorporate the crystaline, the pure and singing without sounding retrograde.” Its a lovely piece of writing, and we are fortunate to have been showcased in this way. Thanks John 🙂

Ausjazz review/preview

Roger Mitchell has written a lovely review of our last gig (on March 26 at Bennetts Lane) on his Ausjazz blog – serving as a nice preview of what’s to come with our album launch residency starting tomorrow! The title: ‘Nat’s Back’, we feel is very catchy.

We’re very excited to announce that To Sail, To Sing is On the Verandah on ABC Classic Drive this week- so tune to ABC Classic FM at around 6.45pm every week day to hear one of our new tracks!

Our new album is, well, pretty much released!

Hi everyone,

Well it’s a pretty exciting few weeks for us, with our new album To Sail, To Sing now completely finished!

Officially, our album is launched on the 25th April at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club in Melbourne: see here for further info!

But, then again, all our Pozible supporters have now received their copies and are (hopefully) eating their breakfast this morning to the pleasant sounds of the NBT…

And then there’s all the promotional copies that have been sent to radio stations across Australia*…

The copies now stocked in Birdland records in Sydney…

And the copies imminently available for sale on the Rufus records website…

So essentially, you could say the album is released now!!! How very exciting!!

A preview of the album, the opening track, All There Is, is now available to listen to here. Each week, leading up to our ‘official’ album launch, we will add a new tune, so stay tuned! Or follow us on Soundcloud or Facebook

Hope you enjoy listening!!

Best wishes,

Nat

*(Dear radio stations, please consider playing our songs, we will be eternally grateful! Kind regards, Nat.)

Our new album is on its way!

Well we are just WEEKS away from completing the production of To Sail, To Sing, our third CD release! In fact, it is all now in the hands of the CD printers. The artwork, by the amazing Luci Everett is completed, and here is a sneak peek! (the cover photo is by me: a tree in Northcote, taken on an iPhone, using Instagram. I think I am officially a hipster now).

To Sail album cover

In preparation for our album launch on the 25th April, we are playing a show on 26th March at Bennetts Lane in Melbourne, playing all the new tunes from our album… if you would like a sneak peek of what’s to come!! All the info is on our gigs page.

Again, a MASSIVE thank you to our Pozible supporters, without which this CD could not have come to fruition… You are the best people on earth.

Lots of love,Nat

Crowdfunding update and changes afoot…

The response to the crowdfunding campaign for our next album has been just tremendous! In 30 days we have managed to raise $3500, and we still have another 30 days to go! The support and enthusiasm for the recording has been truly overwhelming, from old friends, family, musical colleagues and new fans we didn’t know existed before! Thank you, SO much, to those of you who have pledged your support. It looks like I will be performing in a few lounge rooms in the coming months… And we are heading into the studio this week!

We are just $500 off meeting our target, so if you’d like to contribute, you are very very welcome to do so! www.pozible.com/natbartschtrio

If we exceed our target, this will also extremely beneficial in helping me to pay for the initial recording costs as well (such as the talented musicians, engineer, and the studio hire, which has unfortunately significantly increased in cost since our campaign was launched). So if you are interested in pledging support and we have exceeded our official financial target, feel free to press on  regardless – any additional support is very welcomed.

In sadder news (but with a happy ending), we are farewelling long-time drummer with the NBT, Leigh Fisher. He simply needed to be playing drums in too many places at the same time, and we will miss him very much, personally and musically! Leigh joined the trio in 2008 with bassist Josh Holt, and it was a life changing experience performing with both of them for many years, including on my trio’s past two recordings. (Chances are he will still fill in as a trio drummer from time to time in the future, so all is not lost…)

The happy ending, however, is that we are now joined by Daniel Farrugia on drums, whose musicality and experience performing with one of my all time favourite pianists, Luke Howard, as well as many other amazing artists, will mean he is an absolute asset to the NBT!

A feel very lucky to be recording this week with Daniel, Tom Lee, and special guest artists Gian Slater and Kieran Hensey. Very lucky indeed!

Thanks again for all your support,

Nat

New album! And we need your help!

After a few (too many) years away from the studio, Nat Bartsch Trio is very excited to be preparing to record their 3rd CD release, To Sail, To Sing in a few weeks’ time! This album is planned to be released in April-May of 2013.

This album will showcase my new compositions, and expanding our sound to include the wonderful Gian Slater on vocals, and Kieran Hensey on tenor saxophone for two tracks. Leigh Fisher will also be doing a little bit of sampling and effects. It should be a wonderful experience for us to create it, and hopefully a wonderful experience for you as a listener.

This album is being recorded and released independently. As a result, we need your help to bring this recording to fruition. We have created a crowdfunding campaign through the Australian website Pozible.com, where you can pledge to financially support the album. It might simply be that you are prepared to pre-purchase our next album, in order to facilitate its creation and release. Or, if you are happy to pledge a higher amount, you can get your name credited in our album liner notes, bonus tracks, or a Nat Bartsch Trio performance in your lounge room later this year!

At the website below you can read all about our campaign, how crowdfunding works, and also watch a video with a sneak preview of some of my new compositions.

www.pozible.com/natbartschtrio

If we receive enough pledges to meet our funding target, the amount you have pledged will be paid to us. And in exchange, you will receive your rewards! If we don’t meet our target, don’t worry, your pledge will be cancelled and you won’t have to pay a thing: it’s an ‘all or nothing’ funding model, whereby you will only support a project that is able to succeed.

If this is all a bit confusing, email me (nat.bartsch@hotmail.com) and ask as many questions as you like. If you are able to support this album, even in a tiny way, your support will be truly a blessing.

Best wishes,

Nat
